Weight management is continually one of the hottest conversation topics between patients and practitioners. Not only can it impact one’s self-esteem, but it’s often a key indicator of overall health.
Patients often come in with questions about crash diet products they see online or the latest new diet fad, but, as a healthcare professional, you want to offer healthy, holistic alternatives that support essential metabolic pathways instead of products that keep bodily systems from doing what they are supposed to do.
Irvingia gabonensis (IG) or African Mango is an option many practitioners turn to for weight management and overall health.*
Although it’s not part of the mango, African Mango or Bush Mango is a West African plant that gets its name from mango-like fruits valued for their fat, fiber, and protein-rich seeds.
Clinical testing has shown that African Mango Seed Extract may support weight management by increasing metabolic rates and through improved satiety (appetite suppression). * The source of the nutrients must be considered, though. There are plenty of generic African Mango supplements on the market, most of which are not GRAS certified African Mango Seed Extract.

DaVinci Laboratories uses a GRAS certified novel form of African Mango Seed Extract, proven to have an excellent safety profile (up to 10 weeks of use). * It’s the only certified-authentic IG clinically proven to show a positive impact on weight management. *
Authentic African Mango Seed Extract targets multiple systems associated with weight management.* Certified Irvingia gabonesis extract has been shown to support Glycerol-3 Phosphate in a manner that slows body fat production. * Through its impact on and Leptin and Adiponectin, it may also help with satiety, fat burning, and support reduced levels of complex carbs converted into sugar.*
• May support healthy insulin response*
• May support systems that improve plasma total cholesterol*
• May support systems that enhance LDL Cholesterol*
• May help normal inflammation by impacting C-reactive proteins*
• May support pathways that positively impact lipogenesis*
• May support healthy adipose cell function to reach normal leptin and adiponectin levels*
• May support enhanced thermogenesis*
May improve satiety*
Through the support of various metabolic pathways, IG supplementation may help people who struggle with weight management. Human research shows that novel African Mango Seed Extract can impact body fat, weight, and waist circumference in overweight persons.*
Not only did investigators observe fat loss, they saw enhanced marker levels such as C-reactive protein, leptin, and adiponectin. * Researchers believe that African Mango Seed Extract may help regulate glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, which
plays a role in lipogenesis and fat-cell storage.* Furthermore, low levels of the hormone adiponectin are associated with higher body
fat content. Studies show an apparent up-regulation of adiponectin expression with IG supplementation.*
In addition to weight management, Irvingia gabonensis may also help cardiovascular health and insulin response, making it a prime candidate for overall health support.*
At DaVinci, we have rigorous testing protocols to ensure you can trust that you are always getting the exact ingredients listed on our labels and that our products meet the highest quality standards. The manufacturer tests every batch of Irvingia gabonensis to verify it meets purity quality standards for contaminants.
The benefits of Irvingia gabonensis have been observed in multiple clinical trials:
This 2009 study looked at 102 healthy volunteers. Researchers randomly split the participants into two groups, one that would receive 150mg of Irvingia gabonensis extract twice per day (30 to 60 minutes before lunch and dinner) for 10 weeks, and a group that would receive placebos.
Significant improvements in body weight, body fat, and waist circumference, and blood glucose, C-reactive protein, adiponectin and leptin levels were observed in the IGOB131 group compared with the placebo group.* Statistical improvements include a mean waist circumference reduction of 6.7 inches, body fat loss of 6.3%, and mean body weight loss of 28 pounds.
The results of this 2008 study showed that novel Irvingia gabonensis seed extract may play a significant role in the regulation of adipogenesis through the targeting of PPAR gamma gene, which is known to contribute to weight gain in humans.
Researchers looked at the impact of novel African Mango Seed Extract on PPAR gamma, adiponectin, and leptin using murine 3T3-L1 adipocytes as a model for adipose cell biology research. Researchers observed significant down-regulation of adipogenic transcription factor expression as well as adipocyte-specific proteins, and upregulation of adiponectin.*greatly improved.*
This randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled crossover designed study published in 2005 looked at 40 individuals with a mean age of 42.4 years (aged between 19-55).
After just two weeks, the Irvingia gabonensis group saw an average weight decrease of 2.91 ± 1.48% (p < 0.0001) and after one month a total decrease of 5.6 ± 2.7% (p < 0,0001) which was significantly more than the placebo group.* After the second week of the trial blood marker analysis began and researchers saw positive effects on markers that typically decrease with weight loss.
