FOR CUSTOMER-SUPPLIED ARTWORK

ARTWORK NEEDS TO BE SUBMITTED ON OUR TEMPLATE ONLY

  • Template provides a visual layout of what the finished label will look like.
  • Changing or removing the template from the art file will cause rework. The templates we’ve created show:
    • where within a label file graphic elements vs. text can appear
    • what size font will print legibly and in accordance with regulatory requirements
    • what standardized information must be included and where in location to other elements must it be shown

FILE FORMAT DOES MATTER

  • To be able to work on a label file and to be able to set it up so that our printer can work with it, we need to receive the artwork in either of these vector
formats so that our designers can re-open and resize them:
    • .eps (encapsulated postscript), or
    • .ai (Adobe Illustrator)
    • DO NOT SEND pdf’s and JPEG’s, those file types are not editable.

ESTABLISHING COLOR FORMULA

  • In short, two different ways to mix color exist: RGB and CMYK. Our printers require that all files be set up as CMYK, which stands for the 4 primary colors
of pigment: cyan, magenta, yellow & black.
  • These inks are mixed in varying proportions for full, aka - 4 color printing.

RGB, which stands for red, green, & blue, is used in digital applications for artwork that will be displayed on a monitor, digital camera, or TV screen.   If you have

files set up in RGB, we ask that you convert them to CMYK before you send them to us.

GOOD THINGS COME IN PACKAGES

  • Similar to an actual physical toolkit, an art file is made up of many individual elements.
  • We need all the individual elements packaged together for a file to be editable and printable.Untitled design (5)-4
  • Fonts, graphics, and logos are all examples of individual elements.

OUTLINING AND NOT OUTLINING FONTS

  • In very simple terms, outlining fonts turns text into an object which therefore doesn’t need to be installed on another computer in order to open correctly.
  • Outlining fonts ensures that the appearance is preserved when the file is sent to the printer.
  • This alleviates the need to send the actual font if you prefer. However, it also means that if any edits are required, you must make them and resupply the files.
