You may have heard of Ashwagandha. It’s made a splash over the last few years, touted as the ‘new ginseng’ and evolving into one of the most beloved herbs in naturopathic medicine.
In fact, Ashwagandha is also called Indian Ginseng because the two are similar in the wide variety of benefits they offer. The technical name is Withania somnifera. It’s a small shrub in the Nightshade family, native to northern India and North Africa. Although it’s an ancient medicinal herb with many ginseng-like benefits, Ashwaganda is actually more closely related to tomatoes, not ginseng.
Ashwagandha is classified as an adaptogen, so it can help support homeostasis in a number of physiological processes, including how our bodies handle stress. Modern stressors create health challenges that not only impact us on an emotional level but also our minds and bodies – and Ashwagandha may help calm nerves and maintain healthy cortisol levels.*

Most Ashwagandha products are produced solely from the root. Sensoril® Aswagandha uses a proprietary, patented combination of both root and leaf to achieve maximum levels of all three bioactives: Withaferin A, Oligosaccharides, Withanolides.
• May help support the regulation of cortisol*
• Promote calmness*
• May support the body through ROS and reduced apoptosis resistance.*
• May help with a more balanced inflammatory response – one study showed reduced markers such as C-reactive protein.
• May support cardiovascular health*
• Can help support cognitive function*
• May improve energy levels and support mood*
Ashwagandha is known for its role in supporting calmness.* Excessive cortisol production due to stress response can diminish activity in the prefrontal cortex. This is why it can be harder to solve problems, concentrate, retain information, and make sound decisions when stressed.
Thyroid hormones can have a definitive impact on mood. Normalizing hormones like cortisol have a trickle-down effect, causing low mood swings and impacting energy levels. Cortisol is also directly related to cardiovascular health. Overproduction of cortisol over the long-term can increase triglycerides and promote plaque deposits.
Although Ashwagandha can be readily grown in subtropical regions around the world, Sensoril® Ashwagandha is sustainably sourced from certified organic farmers in Northern India, which also helps to support the local economy.
Sensoril® is extremely potent because a water-based process is used to extract withanolides, withaferin, and oligosaccharides from a patented root & leaf composition. Absolutely no chemical solvents are used in the extraction or manufacturing process, leaving Sensoril® a full-spectrum, USDA Certified Organic Extract.
It is also certified organic, non-GMO, vegan, kosher, and halal -- making it suitable for many diets and beliefs.
At DaVinci, we have rigorous testing protocols to ensure you can trust that you are always getting the exact amounts listed on our labels and that our products meet the highest quality standards. The manufacturer tests every batch of Sensoril® Ashwagandha for the potency of withanolide glycosides, withaferin A and oligosaccharides. It is also tested to verify it meets purity quality standards for contaminants like heavy metals and microbes. All raw materials used in our formulas are tested for these items again upon receipt, and then the finished product is also tested.
The benefits of Sensoril® Ashwagandha have been studied in multiple clinical trials, including seven published and two unpublished studies.
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel study with 98 healthy subjects with mild-moderate stress given 125mg once daily and twice daily, 250mg twice daily, and a placebo over 60 days. Researchers found increases in DHEA at all doses and significant reductions in both C-reactive protein and cortisol; Significant promotion of calmness and reduction of feelings of anxiousness and irritability, improved concentration, reduced forgetfulness, and less fatigue; healthy cholesterol, triglycerides, and fasting blood sugar at 125mg twice daily and 250mg twice daily.*
2. Sensoril® Ashwagandha and Cognitive Function, 2013:
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel with 53 subjects with severe mood swings – who were stable during the testing period– given 250mg twice daily and a placebo over 8 weeks. Researchers found that reaction time, working memory, and cognitive capacity were greatly improved.*
3. Sensoril® Ashwagandha and Discomfort, 2013:
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study with 12 healthy individuals given 1000mg once or placebo. Duration lasted 1 day following a 14-day washout and 1-day crossover. Researchers found a significantly increased pain tolerance just 3 hours after taking Sensoril®.*
4. Sensoril® Ashwagandha and Cognitive Psychomoter Performance, 2013:
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study with 20 healthy individuals given 500 mg twice daily or placebo over 14 days followed by a 14-day washout and 14-day crossover. Researchers found improvements to reaction time (attention and sensory motor performance), digital system substitution (attention, response speed, integration, and visual-motor coordination), digit vigilance Task (alertness, vigilance, selective capacity), card sorting (sensory, motor, integrative, and executive functions).*
5. Sensoril® Ashwagandha and Mental Stress and Cardiovascular Effects, 2013:
Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study with 20 healthy individuals given 500 mg twice daily or placebos for 14 days with a 14-day washout period and 14-day crossover. Researchers induced mental stress through tests, measured cardiovascular effects, and found significant improvements in augmentation index and blood pressure, serum cortisol MDA< and C-reactive protein.
6. Sensoril® Ashwagandha and Endothelial, 2014:
Randomized, double-blind, placebo- controlled parallel study with 60 individuals diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes given 250 mg twice daily, 500 mg twice daily, or placebo over 12 weeks. Researchers found both 250 mg and 500 mg doses twice daily improved endothelial function based on Reflective Index, as well as C-reactive protein, blood lipids, and biomarkers of oxidative stress.*
7. Sensoril® Ashwagandha and Capros® for Endothelial Health, 2014:
Randomized, double-blind, parallel study over 12 weeks with 30 Type 2 diabetes patients given 50 MG of Sensoril® twice daily, or 250 mg Sensoril® plus 250 mg Capros® twice daily. Researchers found that both doses significantly improved endothelial function and showed cardiovascular health benefits through reductions in C-reactive protein, blood lipids and oxidative stress biomarkers.*
